Despite the reviews for Luck being slightly less than ideal, the show has already been renewed for a second season on HBO.

It's possible that HBO is doing this to create more buzz around the show--reviews haven't been great, but the star-studded cast and fantastic director David Milch speak to the fact that things could turn around--and after all, after HBO cancelled both How to Make it in America and Hung, it's clear that they dont' mess around. If Luck is getting a second season, there's a reason for that!

On Sunday, December 11, HBO released a sneak preview of the pilot of Luck.

Ken Tucker, of the "Ken Tucker's TV" segment on Entertainment Weekly online, says that the pilot episode is a visual work of beautiful horses, lots of emotional shots of eyes, both of the horses and of the actors, and a "tightly controlled yet open, emotional performance by Dustin Hoffman".

A horse-racing drama is certainly a new thing for HBO, and with this star-studded, it has great potential to be yet another HBO hit--and with the failure of both How to Make it In America and Hung, a hit series would be great for HBO.

So, if you saw the pilot sneak preview, what did you think?
